Screech Echo was a dark and brooding character. The former owner of the mining company Reverb Mining and Logistics, and the former owner of parents, Screech used his business to fund his extra-nocturnal activities. By night, he would dress up as a costumed vigilante and attempt to fight crime. His specific costumed identity changed frequently, as he was still working some stuff out.
Appearance and Personality[]
Screech initially had dark, "nicely quaffed" hair. He was described as "hot", and wore a long pea-coat with a black turtleneck sweater. As his nightly escapades progressed, and he spent less and less time sleeping, Screech became more and more unkempt. He looked rough, with his hair all disheveled, and he became stinky.
Screech's defining character trait was his inability to get over the loss of his parents, at the hands of magic-using criminals years ago. This event fueled his night-time activities, hunting down criminals in the night. As Screech, he tried to be charming and amiable, which he mostly succeeded at. He was not, however, as subtle as he thought he was, and his secret life as a crime fighter was constantly on the brink of being exposed. Due to the nature of his parents' murder, Screech hated magic, and anyone who used it. He believed in the Order's views, that magic shouldn't be allowed to be used by just anyone. Although, he also believed that even the Order shouldn't be using magic. No magic for anyone! However, after several repeated beatings, and magic being used to heal him, Screech began to come around to the idea that magic can sometimes be used for good. It's a slow journey, but hey. Baby steps.
Masked Vigilante[]
Upon arriving in Rimeford, Screech began dressing up in costumes styled after various animals, in an attempt to establish a secret identity for himself. His first persona was "Squirrel Man", which was followed by "Koala T", then "Drop Bear", "Man Ant", and currently, "Beholder-doodle".
One day, he caught a stable-hand/urchin named Gertie attempting to pick his pockets. Instead of reprimanding her, he adopted Gertie as his daughter/ward, and revealed his secret identity to her. She became his sidekick, adopting the identity of a tanuki (though this has been forgotten about, and she's never actually dressed up in costume yet).
During Episode 65, Screech's secret identities were revealed. Now, Screech is known to be all of the various vigilantes. So, that should clear up some confusion, yeah? NOT SO FAST, because in Episode 68, Screech revealed that he told Gertie that he had LIED about being a superhero. And that Gertie is now the ONLY ONE who doesn't know about his secret identity. So, there you go. Somehow, against all logic, everyone knows about Screech's alter egos. Except his ward, Gertie.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Not much is known about Screech's early life. His mother, Blast Echo, and father, Toot Echo, were killed by magic users when he was young, prompting him to pursue a life of crime-fighting as a costumed vigilante. He was extremely wealthy, living in a palacious mansion alongside his man servant Milton Graves.
After learning that a prominent mine he owned in Rimeford was no longer producing as much Theonite as it should, Screech travelled to the small village to investigate. There, he teamed up with two locals, T'Chuck and R'Oarc, as well as an Adept from the Order named Selene von Esper, to solve various mysteries around town. Along with his new friends, Screech was forced to evacuate Rimeford following the Order's immanent invasion of the village. Together, they traveled deep into the mountains of the Whispering Peaks, and there, they found a kind of mirror village of Rimeford, called Mineford. The group decided to settle down here for a while. Milton Graves accompanied them, and Screech (in a half-baked attempt at throwing his friends off the scent) instructed Milton to dress up as Beholder-doodle, so that the hero and Screech would be seen next to each other. This worked, until T'Chuck saw through Beholder-doodle's behavior, and the truth was revealed. Eventually, Screech admitted to being all of the costumed heroes, showing that he was a deeply troubled and broken man.
