Master Alder was the Champion of the Bones card game, from the land of Unova. He traveled around the world, challenging anyone who dared to a game of Bones. When (not if) that challenger lost, he would gift them a free pack of cards. He traveled with three companions, all dressed head to toe in black, making it impossible to see. It was revealed that these companions were secretly reanimated skeletons, after beating Skud Derringer in a game. He then gave Skud his free pack, who found inside, the rarest card of all: the mandible. Skud later used this card to defeat Alder after he returned many years later. That day, The Skull Bandits raided and burnt The Monastery of Uthgar, and Alder arrived just in time to save Skud from being killed by them. At this point, it was revealed that one of his skeletons was made out of iron. After defeating the Skull Bandits, Skud asked how he was able to do that with the bones, and the man gave him a Gold Bone Coin, telling him to practice the art of bonemancy, and one day, Skud will be as good as he is. He then took one of the surviving bandits, Lannie Caplain, to the constable for questioning.
