Story[]
Long Story[]
They wake up on slabs. Actually a slab floor. A stone floor. They wake up on a stone floor. Affixed to their heads are buckets, with eye holes so they can see. They also have chains around their necks, which are drawn across the room, and up the far wall. A voice rings out in their heads, the voice of the Mind Flayer that trapped them, and announces that they are in 2017's Jigsaw. They have a poison coursing through their veins, and this Mind Flayer has the only antidote. If they don't get the antidote within an hour, they will die. Also, he says that one of the party members "hasn't been very honest" with the rest of them. Suddenly, the chains begin pulling them toward the wall, which reveals several saw blades ready to eviscerate them. The MF (Mind Flayer, not motherfucker, but hey, that works too) tells them that only an offering of blood will save them. And that's it.
Everyone freaks out. Time That Erodes Young Love commends Briar to let him bite them, and draw blood that way. Briar, having become so stressed out that they're now masochistic, allows this. TTEYL bites them, sprays blood everywhere, but the chains continue to pull them along. They have none of their equipment, or clothing, now donning the same grey rags that Weck was wearing. Also preset is Gorman and Rango, with Rango unconscious and being dragged along by his chains. Everyone immediately decides that Rango needs to die, so everyone else can live. They try to convince Gorman that there's no hope for him, but Gorman doesn't listen, still believing he can be saved. So, TTEYL kills him, blasting him with Eldritch Blasts. Rango dies, and the chains and saws stop. Gorman's pissed, and pays his respects to Rango. A secret door opens up, and Gorman walks through it first. With him gone, Faize suggests to the others that, if someone else needs to be killed next, Gorman should be it. Everyone agrees, and they walk through the door.
The next room features a large pit, separating the party from the other side of the room. Rising up from the pit are a series of platforms. There are two rows of them, with 4 platforms in each row. The only way across is to jump from platform to platform, but only one side has a "real" platform. The other side is a fake platform, and if you land on that, it collapses, sending you careening down to your death. TTEYL attempts to send Vandrian across, to test which platforms are real, but this doesn't work out. None of the platforms break down. The only way to know for sure is to actually do the damn thing.
Gorman goes first, but only after Faize casts Guidance on him, and TTEYL presenting an illusion of wings that will save him if he falls (they won't though). Gorman jumps, taking the right platform. And, he falls. The right platform is wrong. Gorman is dead.
TTEYL casts Thunder Step, teleporting himself to the other side of the room. He sits and waits for the others. Trent also circumvents the trial, casting Gaseous Form on himself and floating across. That just leaves Briar, Faize, and Pegwing on the wrong side of the pit. Pegwing figures out that he can use the Jump action, then trade his action down for a movement to jump again, and then use an Action surge to jump a third time. This allows him to cross three platforms at once, so it he lands on a wrong one, he can try to quickly jump again. Fortunately, Gorman already revealed the first wrong platform, so he only needs to make three decisions. He jumps onto the first platform on the left, waits a second, and then performs his three-jump move. He goes left, and the platform doesn't collapse! He goes left again, and the platform does collapse! But he's able to react in time and jump again. Before he hits another platform, TTEYL sends an Eldritch Blast out to him, through Vandrian, to blast him across the rest of the way. It hurts, but Pegwing has made it to the other side! And he's revealed three of the four platforms. The path so far is: Left, Left, Right, Unknown.
Faize goes next, and jumps across the left, left, right, and then the left platform. It begins crumbling! Oh no! But TTEYL is able to once again Eldritch Blast her across. So she makes it, and reveals the full correct path. Briar takes this path, without issue: Left, Left, Right, Right. And everyone has made it across! Except for Gorman, who is dead.
Finally, another door opens, and they step inside to find a circular room with many tables. On these tables are their equipment and gear, which everyone collects. Also in the center of the room is vial of some mysterious substance, locked in a cage. This could be the antidote to the poison in their system, but there's only one. Briar is able to pick the lock to open the cage, but accidentally nudges it slightly. The vial teeters, tips... and falls. Right before it crashes to the ground, TTEYL is able to send out a Mage Hand to catch the vial!
Short[]
The party wakes up in a Saw trap, with a Mind Flayer telling them that they have been poisoned. To get out of their trap, only an offering of blood will save them. They decide to kill the unconscious Rango, despite Gorman's objections. This frees them, and they continue on. The next room has a series of pit jumps, and leaps of faith they have to make. Jump on the wrong platform, and you die. Gorman does choose poorly, and falls to his death. Everyone else makes it across, but just barely. In the next room, they find all of their effects, including a vial of what they assume to be the antidote to the poison. Briar picks the lock, and Time That Erodes Young Love grabs it before it falls.
Trivia[]
- Briar's stress is at half their stress level, so they become massochistic. Their AC is lowered by 2, and they have disadvantage on DEX Saving Throws.
