Our heroes, well, our adventurers dig deep and give it all they got. What final horror will await us before we can escape.
Story[]
Long Story[]
The party has just discovered that someone in their party may secretly be a Mind Flayer in disguise. But who could it be. Time That Erodes Young Love accuses everyone, which makes them all think that it's actually him, thought he refutes this. He claims that he can't be a Mind Flayer, because he's not technically alive. Briar brings up the recently impregnated Drow still unconsious and chained to the wall. Unfortunately, they have no way of healing him, so Pegwing decides to just kill him. There are no objections, so he does the deed. TTEYL then tries to sneak one of the Hatchlings from the bowl into a jar, and pocket it away, but he is noticed by Brair and Faize. To cover, he decides to Eldritch Blast the bowl of Hatchlings, killing them all. With nothing else to do in this room, they move on.
Through another door, they see the final hallway, the "throne room", if you will, of the massive Elder Brain. It lies in a large glass tank, floating in greyish sludge, and looks less like a brain, and more like a humanoid baby-like figure trying to turn into a brain. So, that's gross. This, Elder Brain creature, is Fassbender, who was mentioned by the first Mind Flayer back in Episode 4. Also in the room are two Flesh Golems, bodies that have been stitched together from other body parts. They are missing their brains, but soon, two brains with legs appear and scamper over to the Flesh Golems. These are Intellect Devourers, and they crawl up the Golems to settle onto their heads. Now, the Golems can be controlled by the Devourers. The combined creatures begin picking up sacks dripping with blood, and dumping the contents into the vat. Body parts, gore, and viscera slosh out, and into the vat. So, that's very gross. Finally, in the room, chained up on the floor, unconscious, is Shaw. They did it, they found him!
As the party stands, watching this horror, they suddenly hear a voice in their head. The voice of Fassbender, the not-quite-Elder Brain. It tells them that it knows they are there. It's okay, they should come inside. They don't really have any other choice. Pegwing verifies this by attempting to go through any other door, but they all just send him back into this room. With no other options, the party reluctantly enters the throne room. Fassbender greets them, and tells them that it knows the humanoid societies above are vile and corrupt. It wants to help them, by eliminating that corruption. And what better way of doing that, than by turning everyone into Mind Flayers! That's exactly what it plans to do with this party. Together, they will become The Leviathan! This freaks everyone out, sending Briar into flight mode, and TTEYL catatonic. He freezes in place, and doesn't respond to anything, while Brair tries to run out of the room, transforming into rat-mode. The Flesh Golems approach the vat, and gather a bunch of newly born Hatchlings, and begin walking toward the party. Said party isn't just going to sit here and get Mind Flayed, so they fight back.
Briar and TTEYL are having a hard time snapping out of their stressed out state, so Pegwing threatens to snap them out of it for them. This works for Briar, who is able to steady themselves. Still feeling masochistic, however, Briar pulls out their rapier and goes running toward Fassbender, jumping straight into the vat to slice at it. This proves to be an effective strategy, although, they have to struggle to keep from drowning in this thick viscous brine. Faize kills some of the Hatchlings on the Flesh Golems arms, but is then brain dominated by Fassbender. She's forced to fight against Pegwing, though fails to hit him.
At one point, Bennett jumps down off of Pegwing's shoulder and begins running toward the vat. He turns back to Pegwing and shrieks, revealing a "lamprey-like mouth" with razor sharp teeth. This means that Bennett is the secret Mind Flayer! That traitor! Also, Weck reappears and leaps into the vat as well, joining Briar in attacking Fassbender, the Elder Brain directly. Pegwing follows suit, and together, they deal a massive amount of damage to this thing. This also frees Faize from her domination, allowing her to turn her attention to the Flesh Golem/Intellect Devourer combos. Also, TTEYL snaps out of his catatonia, and is able to Eldritch Blast the Devourers off of the Flesh Golems, effectively rendering the Flesh Golems inert. The Devourers however, still have some fight left in them.
Fassbender uses a psionic blast to dominate everyone's brains, except Briar's, and it takes a while for everyone to overcome these effects. In the meantime, Faize is attacked by one of the Devourers, and her brain begins to be eaten! Trent is hit with a mental blast from the other one, which nearly kills him! Finally, Time That Erodes Young Love is able to snap out of it, once again. He stands up and removes his mask, revealing a gaunt, vampiric face. He even has fangs. He flings his robes back. They catch the wind, appearing to resemble wings. His body is emaciated, covered in bite marks. And he's pissed. In a fury, he sends out a series of Eldritch Blasts at Fassbender...
And kills it!
The battle is over. Before him are Pegwing, Briar, and Weck struggling to stay alive in the brain brine. Trent is dying on the ground. Faize is being eaten by a Devourer. And Shaw is still chained up on the floor. This is who TTEYL turns his attention to. He begins feasting on Shaw, killing him, and consuming his blood. Weck approaches him and gets his attention. He points out his fallen friends, and asks if anyone can do anything for Faize. No one can heal him, so he picks up his friend and promises to get her to safety. And with that, he leaves. Bennett is no where to be found. But there is a pile of treasures nearby, personal effects of various victims of the Mind Flayers. TTEYL searches this pile, and finds a strange artifact. It's an idol, with the image of a creature carved into it, a monkey/bat hybrid. He takes this. Pegwing takes Trent, now stabilized, and together they leave this awful place.
Later, they find themselves on Pegwing's ship. A fight breaks out amongst the crew, and no one notices a nearby island that they are fast approaching. The ship crashes onto this island...
Short[]
They can't do anything to save the impregnated Drow, so Pegwing kills him. They move on through the final door, and meet Fassbender, the Elder Brain, who's controlling all of the Mind Flayers. There is a massive fight, where everyone is almost killed, but they manage to hold on. Faize is wounded, so Weck, who appeared at the last minute to help fight, takes her off to safety. Bennett is revealed to be the secret Mind Flayer, and Time That Erodes Young Love reveals that he is some kind of vampire creature. Finally, they defeat Fassbender, saving themselves. TTEYL finds a strange talisman, an idol in the shape of a monkeybat hybrid, which he takes back to Pegwing's boat. This causes the crew to break out into a fight, and they don't notice a nearby island, which they promptly crash into.
Trivia[]
- The island is one we've seen in the main show, way back in Episode 27 - Painful Memories, where we learn that all the inhabitants of Stockley, and the island it inhabits, are dead. The idol is found by the crew of the Chum Guzzler, where it's revealed to cause everyone nearby to become hostile and fight each other. Neat!
- Time That Erodes Young Love is revealed to be a Dhampir, a hybrid of a vampire and a human.
