Greetings, Adventurers! is a weekly, 5th Edition, Actual Play, Dungeons and Dragons podcast. Set in the fictional world of Drunkeros, Greetings, Adventurers! is a comedic take on the classic role playing game, focusing on improvisation and entertainment, instead of rules and rigidity. Except for a few special episodes, the entire series has been run masterfully by Michael DiMauro. Along with Cast of Thrones, Greetings, Adventurers! constitutes one of the two first and most notable podcasts on the Geekly Inc network.

History[]

The idea for the series was born when Michael DiMauro, once and future DM, tweeted out a picture of some D&D books he found in his father's attic, whereupon Steven Strom responded that they should play together. This conversation grew to include Michael's friend Tim Lanning and his wife Jennifer Cheek, as well as other guy Mike Bachmann.

The first episode was recorded on October 31, 2012 (that's Halloween Night, fyi), and was released November 12, 2012. Due to the date of the initial recording, the first episode a rather spooky vibe to it, which would prove to be somewhat uncharacteristic of the rest of the show's tone. Due to the year of the initial recording, the current version of D&D at the time was 4th edition, so that was the version of the game that the show was first run in. However, during Episode 127, the in-game continuity was shifted over to 5th edition, with each character being modified to fit the new rule-set.

During Episode 31, founding cast member Steven Strom left the show, his character making a similar exit in-game. Following this, there were only three players, a dynamic that lasted until Episode 81. During this live show, a new cast member, Nika Howard, joined the party. She has been on the podcast ever since, and is a perfect fit for the show.

For the first two episodes, the show was named Drunkards and Dragons; however, starting with Episode 3, the name changed to Drunks and Dragons. It was an amazing, and iconic name (and helped the cast secure such valuable domains, such as their Twitter handle: @dndpodcast). However, due to issues with sponsorships, and to be viewed in a more reputable light, the name was changed again to Greetings, Adventurers! starting with Episode 315. It's a great name for a great show, I think.

The show ran it's first campaign from the first episode, all the way until Episode 427, which aired on October 18, 2021. This concluded Campaign 1, and after a brief mini-series called Leviathan (ran by guest DM Fred Greenleaf), the second campaign began on January 17, 2022. Set in the same universe as the first campagin, but separated by time and distance, this new campaign introduces us to new adventurers, new locations, and new status quos. But the love is just the same as it's always been.
