We journey into the dang Astral Plane in order to journey into the dang Abyss. Wow, this is going to suck. What even is the Abyss? I feel like it will be wet for some reason? Squishy? Ah, here it goes!

Story[]

Long Story[]

The Tower of Grey are in The Tower of Gray [sic], preparing for their upcoming descent into The Abyss. Toby goes to visit the local cleric, Clarence Scrimald, the one who doesn't want to join the Tower. The young Gnome thanks the cleric for all the work he's done for them over the years, despite his misgivings. He also asks Scrimald for some advice. Is it, Toby asks, better to sacrifice one's soul to evil, for the sake of saving your friend's lives? Scrimald doesn't really have an answer to that question. Nevertheless, Toby leaves him with 200 gold, instructing him to distribute it to those in need. He then returns to the Tower, and ensures that everyone has Scrolls of Teleportation Plane Shift. [Editor's Note: The language isn't specific here, so I am going to assume that everyone in the party has exactly 1 Scroll of Plane Shift. Everyone cool with that? Cool.] And two Potions of Greater Healing for each of them.

Bucky, being impetulant, demands that they go "rescue his mother", or whatever he's talking about, so they don't have much time to prepare. But what there is time for is a discussion on who will be going with them. They do have quite the cast of characters assembled by this point. Ultimately, there are to be 3 teams: a "Home" team, who will stay back at the Tower; a "Boat" team, who will leave with them on The BTS, but stay back on the ship to defend it, and finally; an "Abyss" team, who will travel down to the Abyss to rescue Jaeludra and Adira. Jaeludira? [Editor's note: Work on this]

Lahnis asks her brother Lonny if he wants to go with them. Lahni asks if brother Lonny wants to go with them. He doesn't want to, and he doesn't want Lahni to go either, but does agree to go and stay back on the boat. You know what this moment needs? A race! The two Caplains challenge Toby to a race. Now, this group has just spent 2 days straight sleeping and recovering spell slots. They are about to enter The Abyss, to find the final piece of the artifact, and rescue some of their dearest friends, some of the most important people in all the worlds. And Toby, one of the wisest people in all the worlds, spends a 9th level spell slot as a bit. He casts Time Stop, and runs toward the ship before the Caplains can get there. And he wins! Hurray! But, I ask, at what cost...?

Eventually, everyone makes it onto the boat, and, eventually, the boat takes off. But they need to navigate this thing. Toby can't do it. Lahni can't do it. Rowan can't do it. Not even Angel la Pamela Sanjerita, who lives here can do it. Ultimately, it's Amber Reeve who steps in and gets the ship on track. Good on you, Amber Reeve. The journey will take about 9 hours, the perfect amount of time for a Toby to rest up. And everything is peaceful...

For about 4 hours.

That's when the ship is suddenly attacked by some Githyanki pirates! 2 large Githyanki pirate ships appear on either side of the BTS, and fire harpoons into it! One of them is black, with a large grey skull flag (no relation to Castle Greyskull). The other is silver and red, with a large axe on the flag. On the side of this ship is Gith script that reads "The Executioner" (which Bucky also has as a tattoo on his bicep). Oliver Hairmouth and Angel la Pamela Sanjerita know these ships, and are very scared. They run below decks.

A horde of Githyanki pirates begin Misty Stepping onto the BTS, yelling "Take no prisoners!" Uh oh!

Short[]

After much planning, the Tower of Grey departs for the Abyss. They are attacked by pirates. That's really about it. It's mostly an RP episode.

Trivia[]

  • Toby is 49 years old, his 50th birthday is coming up soon
    • Lahni and Rowan are planning his big 50th birthday party with Kate Aurochs
  • To prepare for their journey to The Abyss, everyone thinks about something that centers them
    • Toby: A book where every page is dog-eared. Because every page is just as important as all the rest
    • Lahni: 2 squirrels fighting over 1 nut
    • Rowan: Having beers with Hoby. Little Hoby holding a tiny glass of beer. So cute
  • In this episode, it's Wordsworth Zics who was brought out of the Elemental Plane of Fire with them, not Sharpe Lestat. This is correct, but in a previous episode, it was stated that Lestat was brought back, not Zics. I'm glad this was figured out. Wordsworth Zics is alive, and hanging out with the Tower of Grey. Sharpe Lestat is dead, probably, at the hands of Tiamat. Never forget...
    • Later, Michael lists the characters staying on the ship, and he says "Sharpe" instead of "Wordsworth". I swear, if this ends up being another Branson situation, so help me...
  • Amber Reeve is the Chief Adventuring Officer for the Tower of Grey
  • It seems that Angel la Pamela Sanjerita's name changes from Angel la Pamela to Angela la Pamela. This is funnier, actually
  • I am pretty sure Toby learned Time Stop from the book Tsugrix Zelentiri. When he first got it, this was one of the spells he used as an example of what spells it had, and he's never cast it before, so...
  • Boris is mentioned as being on the boat crew at one point, but before that, he was supposed to stay behind to figure out a way to recharge the Planar Crystals. Then, he wasn't referenced later as being on the boat crew, so I'm gonna call an audible and say that he stayed back at the Tower unless something changes later. Everyone cool with that? Cool.
  • As of the beginning of this episode, there were 4 charged Planar Crystals remaining
  • Bucky's armor doesn't fit
  • Amber Reeve's class is "some kind of fighter"...
