Story[]

Long Story[]

Having just met up with Skud's mother, The Maroness, we cut in on her recognizing her long lost son. There is an emotional reunion. They hug. She explains that she tried to find him, but the monastery was "unscryable", so he couldn't be seen. Apparently, Skud's dad put him there specifically to guard "this artifact", which is presumably The Orb. Why this hasn't come up before now is a mystery. The Maroness looked for him, but was unsuccessful and ran out of money, so she found Jilling the Bonehammer and brought her back instead. Jilling's parents were royalty, but there was a coup, Michael claims it's not important, but as the Wiki writer, I very much disagree, etc.

The rest of the party introduce themselves (including Bercy), and then The Maroness confirms that Brody Broheim IS, in fact, Skud's father, despite Skud's insistence that this was not the case last episode. He does claim that he's wearing a disguise, and so didn't recognize him, so whatever. Also, he just saw his father 6 weeks before The Tower of Grey arrived. Anyway, time to remember what the reason for being here is, which is they need to defeat Jilling in a Bones game, in order to get into the Elite Forge. Since The Maroness refuses to just give them the Water Badge, the battle must go on, BUT they must wait until Bonesplash 42 tomorrow. Oh, also, Skud's last name isn't Derringer, but Uthgarson!

The Maroness offers for them to stay at her mansion, which has dry rooms for them to sleep in. Toby questions if Skud is a demigod. At dinner, the Maroness offers up guppies and seaweed, and it all seems really gross. Lahni asks about the giant creature they saw when they swam in. She guesses that they're talking about The Leviathan. Anyway, after some more banter, they all go to bed, and the next day they wake to the day of Bonesplash 42! That sentence made sense!

The Maroness pulls Skud aside and assists him in some of the more intracate rules of Bones, which we all remember in great detail thanks to the incredible Wiki page on said game. After a prolonged discussion on damage types, things are settled as the following. As Rowan does piercing damage, she would do well to avoid necromancy damage. Lahni does bludgeoning, and Toby does evocation magic. The Beholder, Rick does necromancy, Pyre would be slashing, because of the claws and whatnot (his bite would be piercing), and the Astral Dreadnought would also be slashing.

They meet up with Skipper outside, who's upset that they left him outside. Whoops. It's no longer his birthday! As an apology, Lahni gives him an old, soggy egg salad sandwich, but since it's the nicest gift he received for his birthday, it will have to do. He makes a reference to Brody, which provokes Toby into thinking that he is somehow related to the events of Skud's mystery, perhaps even being Uthgar somehow, but Lahni senses that this is not the case.

They finally make it to the arena, which is jam packed with fans. As they approach the entrance, they are met by Brody Broheim.

Short[]

There are a lot of talks with the Maroness, aka Skud's mother, where it is revealed that Brody is, in fact, Skud's father, who is also the god Uthgar. Wow. Also, Uthgar put him in the Monastery specifically to watch after The Orb. She teaches everyone a little about the Bones game, and then everyone sleeps the night away. The next day, Skipper takes them to the battle arena where they meet up once again with Brody, aka Daddy, aka Uthgar

Trivia[]

  • Skud had his signature flock-o-seagulls haircut as a wee little baby
  • The Maroness is also a Falconer, as Skud has become since the last episode
  • It may or may have been 6 weeks since they met Skud
    • Or, several months
  • To clarify, Skud's father IS Brody Broheim, but Brody is also Uthgar, the god. So, there you go
  • It's apparently incredibly painful to be boneified into a card
  • In the Bones game, bludgeoning is weak to enchantment, and slashing is weak to evocation. And piercing is weak to necromancy
