Nest Naps Back to the Circus

Ok, bruised, battered and bloodied we leave the jungle but with victory shining bright on our faces. These stone giants will surely sing our praises as we are clearly the heroes of the decade. But we don’t do it for rewards or accolades… as long as they have money.

Story[]

Long Story[]

The party has finally made it down the mountain, successful in their mission of retrieving the Crystal of Harmony. Last episode, they had been attacked by three Velociraptors, and had questioned how said raptors had managed to make it to the top of said mountain. Now, they get a kind of answer. The ground at the foot of the mountain is littered with dead dinos, obviously having failed to scale the cliff's face. R'Oarc has some fun with the pile of bodies, crafting a makeshift sled out of their bones, and riding it down the pile. Gross. Also, Screech collects a bunch of raptor feathers. You know how raptors have feathers? Well now Screech does too. The exact number isn't specified.

T'Chuck leads the party back through the dense tropical forest surrounding the mountain, as they head back toward the Stone Giant settlement. At one point, they come across a giant dinosaur, chewing on some leaves and blocking their path. It's a Brachiosaurus! Or perhaps a Brontosaurus, formerly known as an Appatosaurus, and formerly before that, known as a Brontosaurus. It's fucked up. Look it up. Anyway, they are able to successfully maneuver around the dinosaur, but only after T'Chuck bribes R'Oarc with 2 gold to not touch it.

More things around the forest that they find: Some stinky durian fruit (which they don't touch), some "little geyser-y things", that R'Oarc sketches the party in front of, and the sounds of a young screeching animal. This last one is of interest to the party, who think of themselves as "heroes". Screech decides to go on ahead and check it out, but he's still doing his vine swinging thing, which he's probably fine at, but this is Dungeons and Dragons, where dice must be rolled. So, the vine he's swinging from snaps, and he falls into a tar pit! Fortunately, he's able to fling the bag of raptor feathers over onto solid ground before landing in the pit, so at least those are safe.

Also in the tar pit with screech is the animal that was shrieking. It's a young woolly mammoth, a strange creature that none of the party have met before (although R'Oarc has seen elephants when she was hanging out at all those circuses before.) Also, apparently, "woolly" is spelled with two "O's" and two "l's". How fucked up is that? The rest of the party runs to the pit, but how can they save Screech and the mammoth? Turns out, Screech can save himself, because he still has his Rope of Climbing. He commands it to fly over to a nearby tree, where it affixes itself. Using that, Screech is able to pull himself out of the tar pit, but he's not strong enough to pull the mammoth with him.

So, now there's a baby mammoth stuck in a tar pit. There are several ideas thrown around about how to get it out of there, but in the interest of brevity, here's what they do: Selene uses Maximillian's Earthen Grasp to pull the mammoth out of the tar, but can't move it onto dry land. T'Chuck knocks a branch off a nearby tree, and Screech calms the mammoth down enough that it's able to grab onto the branch. Together, they pull the mammoth out, and it's saved!

Having successfully saved the mammoth (and after washing the tar off of it, using those geysers from before), the party continues through the forest, with a new baby mammoth in tow. Eventually, they are able to make it back to the settlement of the Stone Giants, who are very grateful for them returning the Crystal of Harmony. As thanks, they give the party what they had promised them before: A Portable Hole. It can hold stuff inside it, but there's no air in it, so after 10 minutes, anything living that's trapped in there... won't be living anymore. They also claim to be expert leather-workers, and give each of the party magical +1 studded leather armor (except Selene who, as a sorcerer, can't wear magical armor). Also, the Stone Giants tell them that woolly mammoths are supposed to be good luck, and can even grant 3 wishes to whomever it bonds with. So, that's fun.

The episode ends with R'Oarc sticking her head into the portable hole, to see what it looks like in there. It's terrifying, and what she sees changes her.

Short[]

The party heads back to the settlement of the Stone Giants, rescuing a baby woolly mammoth on the way. Returning the Crystal of Harmony, the party is rewarded with some magical armor, and a Portable Hole.

Trivia[]

  • Tim says he has 656 gold before the episode starts. I had it as 648, but I don't know everything.
  • R'Oarc feeds the baby mammoth a sausage roll covered in peanuts, which it loves.
  • The baby mammoth's official title is "Mammuthus primigenius".
    • Also, Latin exists in this world.
  • Bachmann realizes he still has his Ball Bearings from the beginning of the campaign. There was an episode a while ago where the party dropped off a lot of their equipment, so they didn't have to carry it around anymore, and I used that as an opportunity to clean up the inventory section. A lot of stuff got removed, so the ball bearings weren't listed there anymore. But now has them, again. Cool.
  • T'Chuck gets a cool hat. Not quite a cowboy hat, not quite a crocodile dundee hat. It maybe gives him some kind of advantage, but it's not specified.
    • It's unclear if this hat is what they make as the +1 armor for T'Chuck, or if it's in addition to. It sounds like the hat is the armor, so that's what I'm going to go with for the inventory section, just so y'all know.
  • With the +1 armor, Screech's AC is now 16, and R'Oarc's is 15.
