Rope Nest Naps

Having successfully managed to scale the cliff with our mighty magic rope we now come face to break with our foe. It certainly has the advantage, what with it being a mountain and all, but I know we can succeed and not get smashed into pancakes by falling!

Story[]

Long Story[]

The party finds themselves standing atop a tall cliff face. There's a small, flat surface area before them, and at the far end is a raised point. That raised point houses a nest, inside of which lays the Crystal of Harmony, as well as two huge eggs. Those eggs belong to the massive 20-ft tall Pterodactyl that's looming over the nest! It doesn't appear to have noticed the party, yet however. Screech, T'Chuck, R'Oarc, and Selene are hanging from the edge of the cliff, planning out their next move.

T'Chuck suggests that Screech sneak in and grab the Crystal. That's a good idea, but they do all decide that the bird needs to die anyway. So, instead of sneaking in and grabbing the Crystal, Screech can sneak in and attack! He does this, but rather than just climbing up and sneaking up like normal, he does the following: First, he skirts along the edge of the cliff face, so he's now behind the bird. Then, he (I guess while still hanging there) commands his Rope of Climbing to tie itself to his grappling hook (instead of just tying it himself, which I would imagine to be faster). Then, he throws the rope/hook toward the bird, and finally, commands the Rope to tie itself to the beast's neck. It's a little confusing, the order of operations here, but the end result is that the bird takes off flying into the air, with Screech dangling via rope behind it!

The rest of the party pull themselves up onto the ledge, and rush in to help. Screech pulls himself up the rope, and mounts the foul beast. He begins attacking it from Pterodactyl-back, which I desperately want to see fan art of. Meanwhile, the Ptero begins causing problems for our heroes, clawing at them with its talons, and flapping its great wings at them. They are barely able to hold on. In fact, Selene is knocked straight off the side! Fortunately, she's able to cling on long enough for T'Chuck to grab her and pull her back up.

R'Oarc plucks some of the creature's feathers, which Screech calls dibs on. He's busy trying to hack off one of the wings of this flying foe. Not the wisest idea considering that he's still riding on its back. Pulling herself to her feet, Selene casts Darkness to create a zone of magical darkness on the Pterodactyl. It moves along with the bird, resulting in a sphere of darkness flying all around. Bad ass. But not nearly as bad ass as the way the fight ends.

Screech manages to keep hold of the rope around the Ptero's neck. He pulls himself up, onto his feet. And he is able to use his Ranger ways to Animal Handle this creature back down to the ground. Unfortunately, both he and the bird are blind, so they can't exactly see where the ground is. They are going to crash! At the last second, Screech jumps off the Ptero's back. He vaults out of the sphere of darkness, and lands with a safe roll on the ground. As for the bird? The dark sphere crashes into the ground with a sickening splat. The last things we see before the episode ends, is a pool of blood oozing out from the darkness...
