Deep Jungle Rope

We continue deeper into this weirdly humid jungle. I mean, we brought our cold weather clothes and now it is like, hot and damp. This place sucks. Also there are dinosaurs.

Story[]

Long Story[]

It's a hot and humid day in the jungles of... wherever we are. A snake slithers up a nearby tree. Giant mosquitoes continue to buzz around. Penelope Whistleblow is still nowhere to be found. No one is hurt that badly, except Screech, but T'Chuck is able to heal him. They elect not to rest, and press on through. T'Chuck does briefly contemplate harvesting the meat from the apes they recently killed, but decided not to. No need to leave themselves open to further attacks, you know. He does apologies to, seemingly, the jungle itself for killing the apes. And for some reason, a voice echoes back that it's okay? Not sure what that's about.

The party continues on through the jungle. Around noon, an eerie stillness falls over the land. A massive, reptilian footprint is found in the dirt before them. They're suddenly riding in an SUV, and they all have glasses of water, which they set down on the dashboard. And, lo and behold, a rippling begins, along with the booming echo of foot steps. The lawyer runs into the bathroom. They all get the feeling they're being hunted...

Alright, the SUV/water/lawyer stuff doesn't happen. But they do believe that Doomjaws himself is afoot!

T'Chuck heals Screech even more, then gives him Sanctuary. Screech is to be bait. He swings out into the open, causing a ruckus, and pissing all over the place. As he does, he fails to notice a giant, reptilian eye peering out at him from behind the trees. The great lizard wants, very badly, to attack Screech, but tragically, it cannot, due to the Sanctuary. This failed attack does catch the attention of the party, however, so they leap out to attack.

They are greeted by the most horrid sight. The beast is massive, spanning approximately 12.3–12.4 m (40–41 ft) in length, but according to most modern estimates, could have exceeded sizes of 13 m (43 ft) in length, 3.7–4 m (12–13 ft) in hip height, and 8.8 tonnes (8.7 long tons; 9.7 short tons) in mass. The forelimb or arm was very short. The upper arm bone, the humerus, was short but robust. It had a narrow upper end with an exceptionally rounded head. The lower arm bones, the ulna and radius, were straight elements, much shorter than the humerus. The second metacarpal was longer and wider than the first, whereas normally in theropods the opposite is true. The forelimbs had only two clawed fingers, along with an additional splint-like small third metacarpal representing the remnant of a third digit.

It's a Tyrannosaurus Rex!

As the epic battle begins, a downpour sweeps over the land, to set the mood. Screech, closest to the king of the lizards, chips some health away, and then swings around to hang onto its back. He's able to hold on, despite Doomjaws' movements. This gives him a good vantage point to chip off some of Doomjaws' "spines" (whatever that means) and feathers. Selene is up next, who sends a Psychic Lance at the beast. It's too stupid to not get hit, so it not only takes damage, but is also incapacitated. Despite this, Selene fails to hit it with a follow up Fire Bolt. Lol.

T'Chuck sends out some Guardians of Faith (more powerful than his Spiritual Guardians spell), which deal DPS during the fight, and he also grants himself and Screech some temp HP. R'Oarc also heals Screech, so he's good for a while.

This continues for a while, until Doomjaws is able to attack again. He attempts to tail whip Screech, but, just like in Pokémon, Tail Whip is a non-damaging move. He then runs at Selene (which has to be the scariest thing in the world), and tries to chomp at her. He's stopped, however, by R'Oarc casting Silvery Barbs on him, and Selene using a quick Shield to block Doomjaws' jaws. He fails to chomp. Lol.

Finally, Screech is able to finish it off, by burying his Bear Claws (Bear-ying?) into Doomjaws' spine, and prying them off one by one. He rides the beast's back all the way down, landing safely on the ground.

The battle is won, but there's no time to celebrate. Before them, the party sees a massive cliff face. At the top is their mission, the Crystal of Harmony. But between them and the Crystal, are massive, flying beasts. Unlike any birds they've ever seen, these creatures are generalist carnivores that probably feed on a variety of invertebrates and vertebrates. Like all pterosaurs, these beasts have wings formed by a skin and muscle membrane stretching from its elongated fourth finger to its hind limbs. It is supported internally by collagen fibres and externally by keratinous ridges. They are a small pterosaur compared to other famous genera such as Pteranodon and Quetzalcoatlus, and they also lived earlier, during the Late Jurassic period, while both Pteranodon and Quetzalcoatlus lived during the Late Cretaceous. They lived alongside other small pterosaurs such as the well-known Rhamphorhynchus, as well as other genera such as Scaphognathus, Anurognathus and Ctenochasma. They are classified as an early-branching member of the ctenochasmatid lineage, within the pterosaur clade Pterodactyloidea.

They are Pterodactyls!

Short[]

The party encounters Doomjaws! Ahh, very scary! They are able to defeat him, however. Good job, party!

Trivia[]

  • You know the apes that were killed in the last episode. Yeah, they were wearing collars. Not, just, like, jewelry collars. No, these are the collars from, like, a button up shirt for some reason.
    • Also, Selene is the only one who notices this.
  • Doomjaws has a crossed-out tattoo that says "Rhonda".
  • Michael claims that, when he was in first grade, he one something called "The Dinosaur Award", because he loves dinosaurs so much. What exactly this "Dinosaur Award" is (or if it ever really existed) is a long-standing debate amongst historians and scientists to this day.
  • R'Oarc is granted inspiration for trying to stab the dinosaur.
