GeeklyCon 2023 - The Four Heroic Hurdles Fast and Freaky

With Mineford’s recent and successful Goblycon (SP?) we are awash in new visitors looking to make it their home! Hopefully someone opens a Pizza Place. Pizza is good.

Story[]

Long Story[]

GobblyCon was a tremendous success! Everyone had a great time! T'Chuck hardly remembers any of it! Such fun was had, in fact, that there are now a few new people who have decided to move into Mineford. And what's more is that each of them has, in turn, opened their own unique business. That's economics, baby!

Here are those newcomers:

  • Seraphina Nightshade, a Wood Elf, who's opened up an herb shop called "Mandrake and Mortar". Nestled in a shadowy alley, it's known for it's extensive collection of rare and exotic herbs. Seraphina herself is a mysterious and knowledgeable herbalist, rumored to have a deep connection with her plants. She was brought in by T'Chuck.
  • Adelaide Thornehollow, a whimsical Halfling, who's opened up a bookshop called "The Curious Codex". It's quirky and eccentric, filled with unusual and eclectic books. She was brought in by Screech.
  • Morwin Darkhammer, a stoic and solitary Dwarf, who's opened up a foreboding blacksmithing shop called "The Gloomforge". Morwin is known for her exceptional talent in crafting dark and formidable weapons, that have cool pentagrams on them. She was brought in by Selene.
  • Grimmly Tumbletoes, a cheerful Halfling with an adventurous spirit, who's opened an emporium called "The Fumbling Find". It's filled with various objects and knick-knacks, each of them jinxed in some benign, yet comedic, way. He was brought in by R'Oarc, much to T'Chuck's chagrin.
  • Coraline Nightshade, sister to Seraphine. She's a butcher who's opened a meat shop called "Dark Cleaver Deli". They're renowned for their exotic cuts of meat. Coraline was NOT brought in from GobblyCon, but instead was paid 200 gp (indirectly) by T'Chuck. Not sure what program they're working through, but there you go.

Ratma Ritmo is impressed with them for bringing in so much new business. But not impressed enough to not try poisoning Selene with her viscous toenails. That's Ratma, she's such a rascal. A Ratscal? A Ratmascal? A Ratma Ritscal? No, that's bad.

Anyway, what next? They decided to head to the deli, so they can discuss their next moves over some sack lunches. It's a nice place, and Coraline asks them for their orders. Selene and T'Chuck don't like spicy food, but Screech and R'Oarc do, so they have to get two sandwiches to split. One is spicy, and it's got Griffon ribs inside of it. The other is not spicy, and it's got extra troll sauce. T'Chuck thinks it's gross, but Selene's way into it. Despite the food, the gang can't really concentrate in this place, because Coraline won't stop just, staring at them. So, they head back to the Goblin Pit Too.

Alright, seriously, now what? They've done a pretty good job at helping to revitalize Mineford. Maybe their work here is done? They've done such a good job, in fact, that R'Oarc suggests taking this show on the road. Move all along the Underdark, revitalizing other towns and settlements. Eventually, they could garner such goodwill with everyone, that they could use their clout to form an army, and finally rise up against the Empire! That's a maybe. They'll put a pin in that.

Selene reminds everyone that they had mentioned traveling east at one point. That's not a bad idea. T'Chuck suggests they do one final quest before leaving, maybe collect a little reward, use that as a nest egg to travel comfortably. Okay, that sounds good. They all head off to the Quest Board to see if there's anything new to do. In fact, there are four quests currently posted:

  • "Mushroom Gathering" (this is deemed too boring, so they skip it)
  • "Reforge the Path to Morendarith"
  • An un-named quest about bringing a load of ale to the newly opened Goblin city of Thornhaven.
  • Another un-named quest to rescue Grimshaw Shadowhoof.

That last one seems the most in their wheelhouse, so the group goes to ask Ratma Ritmo about it. Per her, Grimshaw is a Minotaur, and (in classic Minotaur fashion) is currently living in the middle of a giant, complex maze. He needs rescuing, from himself! Apparently, he used to be the town farrier, and it was his job to re-shoe the horses they had. There are no horses in Mineford now, and that's because they ain't got no farrier! So, that's their mission. Ratma gives them a map TO the maze, but says they'll be on their own once they get there. There's no map OF the maze, because, well, that would just defeat the entire point, now wouldn't it?

Suddenly, a big THUMP sound echoes out from nearby. The door to the cellar is shaking. Something is trying to get through! Ratma looks scared. She quickly jots something on a sheet of paper, and hands it to T'Chuck. It's a new quest! It says "Kill my three basement monsters. Non negotiable." Uh Oh! She also points out the broken Dream Master lying on the ground. Seems she used it, a little too vigourously, and now her dreams have become real! And also viscious. Although that may have been the point for her. I'm not judging.

Anyway, a giant, red, hairy creature with massive arms emerges from the cellar door and attacks!

Short[]

After bringing in a few new business owners to Mineford, our heroes have decided that maybe, their work here is done. They decide to make their way east, to investigate parts unknown. But first, they speak with Ratma Ritmo, to see if there are any new quests to take care of. There are a few, and they decide to tackle one of them. A Minotaur named Grimshaw Shadowhoof is hiding in his maze, and needs to be brought back to town. She gives them a map to this maze, but before they take off, the door to the cellar bursts open. A giant, red, hairy creature with massive arms attacks them!

Trivia[]

  • Day ?? of the campaign. It's an indeterminate amount of time after GobblyCon, which I assumed was on Day 47. At one point in this episode, Michael was about to say "It's days lat--" and was cut off. So, who knows how long it's been. Could be years! (It's probably not years).
  • Of course, there's a discrepancy with the gold that they currently have. It's mentioned that, after deducting the 200 gp to bring in Coralina Nightshade, they now have 551 gp. This does not line up with what's been established previously. In the last episode, they had 450 gold, and 18 silver. They were then paid 300 gp for three of the four GobblyCon quests. While they did complete the fourth, they weren't paid for it on episode. But I think it's safe to assume they would have been, so that's fine. 450 + 400 would be 850 gold, plus the 18 silver. Then, if they took 200 away now, it would be 650 + 18 silver. (I would just assume they didn't get the last 100 gp from Ratma, which would line up closer to what Tim is saying. But, in the live version of this episode, they specifically say that they did get all four payments, and that (somehow) brought them up to the 751. I don't know). But, I don't make the rules. They have 751 gold now. Fuck it.
  • Ratma mentions that the Dark Cleaver Deli recently got some fresh slabs of wyvern meat. It's supposed to be really spicy. But, like naturally spicy. So, it's fine.
  • Remember when R'Oarc killed Wally Bonebraids for, as near as I can tell, no reason at all? And then told no one?
  • When did they last level up? I'll tell you! The party reached Level 7 in Episode 61, and I forgot to edit the character pages to reflect that. Good job, everyone!
  • With all this time spent underground, Screech and Selene are looking very pale. R'Oarc has also lost some pigmentation, but now, she's more of a pastel color.
  • Nika hasn't forgotten about Lucee. She suggests bringing them back down to Mineford, to use their ants as a form of public transportation.
    • Lucee was actually mentioned as having accompanied R'Oarc to the various carnivals where they meet Stephanie, Kimmie, and Heiguy, three characters that Nika does seem to have forgotten about
  • Also, Bachmann mentions not having forgotten about Skud's dog, though I would be willing to bet a million dollars that he doesn't remember that dog's name.
    • Also, Bachmann does seem to have forgotten about his current Skud's dog, which is Gertie, his ward. She's... around. Probably.
