A Slight Cult Problem Crushed

Our heroes are getting the hang of this dangerous life. It’s amazing what one day can do to change your life. Something big is afoot, and we all have to be ready.

Story[]

Long Story[]

The day is coming to a close, and everyone heads back to their own respective homes/inns/keeps. But first, T'Chuck lays down the charm on Captain Clint, suggesting that the two spend the night together. For two reasons: 1. T'Chuck doesn't want to sleep alone tonight, with everything that's been going on, and 2. Sexy times, babyyyyyyyy. Clint agrees. Meanwhile, Screech, having thrown out his previous squirrel costume, is hard at work on crafting a new suit. He's collected various animal pelts, and now spends the night designing his new look. And brooding, of course.

At The Goblin Pit, Selene has tucked in, and is reading a copy of The Crimson Courtesan. It's getting a little steamy, though that might not be just from the book. Her Theonite collar is warming up, and a muffled voice begins to echo out from it. She's getting a message. Unfortunately, being so close the the Theonite mines, the signal is being disrupted, so Selene has to throw on a nightgown, and heads outside, away from the town a ways, before the voice can be heard clearly. When it is, it is Master Caegin, asking for a progress report. Selene (nervously) goes into everything that's been going on: The murder of Elwin Trantor, the kidnapping of R'Oarc at the hands of Hanlan Four Fingers, the tracking down and subsequent murder of Four Fingers, the references to Ugnos, and the light in the window of the White Spire. She also mentions that Four Fingers did magic, which is illegal. This is all very troubling, and Master Caegin warns her to be careful, but also tells her to investigate the White Spire. Likely, someone just broke in and it's probably nothing, but best to be sure. He also warns to be wary of Mistress Alandra Thorne. She's meant to be communicating with the Ordinatio Theonitus, but hasn't been responding to their summons lately. She claims the mines are interfering with the signal, and can't be bothered. Finally, he says it's glad they're out in the middle of nowhere, so that The Farhold Trumpeter won't hear about any of this! They hang up, and Selene slinks back to the Goblin Pit for the night.

Upon waking the next morning, the party finds themselves stronger, faster, more invigorated. They're level 2! Captain Clint leaves T'Chuck and R'Oarc's house, and T'Chuck heads out as well, but not before donning some heavy armor beneath a loose fitting cloak. R'Oarc writes a letter to Selene, and thinks about how to get it to her. She decides to attach it to a rock and chuck it through the window of her room in the Goblin Pit. This scares Selene, but she does read the letter (opening it with Mage Hand). It says "Cool hair. Want to join my band? Yes. No." Confused, Selene heads downstairs, where she runs into Ratma Ritmo. She tells the goblin about the window, where Ratma enthusiastically blames the Squirrel Man. He is known to do that, and he's wanted in Farhold. Hey, on an un-related note, here comes Screech, holding a copy of The Farhold Trumpeter. He orders hot coffee, even hotter sauce, and sits down at his favorite table to read. There on the front page is his sketch of the Squirrel Man, looking suspiciously like Ratma Ritmo. The headline reads: Sinister Squirrel Found in the Whispering Peaks Region! Frowning, Screech leaves the tavern, and makes his way over to the carriage that the Trumpeter is operating out of.

As he approaches, Screech calls out to Decacog, voicing his concerns that the Squirrel Man isn't really all that bad. The door bangs open, and out steps the gnome, wearing his patented specially designed suit. It has 10 silvery metal arms that he can control, and use them to walk around. Very formidable, indeed. Decacog insists that Squirrel man is evil, and asks for more sketches, which Screech complies with. He produces a sketch of the squirrel leaving town. Decacog, however, is not convinced. He plucks a flower from the ground, and hands it to Screech, demonstrating the arms dexterity. But they are also strong, which he shows by lifting the side of the carriage. Screech makes an edit to the sketch, adding a dog being kicked by the squirrel. Decacog is happy with this, and hands it off to Jenkins to be run.

Selene also heads over to the carriage, and asks for today's edition of the paper. It's 1 gold piece, which she finds steep, but accepts. She thumbs through it, finding no mention of yesterday's events, which is good. Selene runs into Screech, and tell him that she doesn't want the Trumpeter publishing anything about what's going on in Rimeford, ya got it? He agrees (but does suggest he might have something embarrassing printed about Selene). The two discuss their distrust of Alandra Thorne, and agree to go speak with her. But first, Selene writes up a tip to Decacog, about Alandra, and suggests he also investigate her. This note, she throws at him from behind a tree. Decacog notices this, and calls out to another gnome, this one wearing a trench coat, a fedora, and sunglasses. You know, the works. They confer, and then the spy gnome heads toward the temple.

T'Chuck approaches Selene, and also Captain Clint is there? They discuss the various mis-goings-on about town, what could be done about them. Clint decides to sniff around the Hunting Guild that Four Fingers was the butcher for, while T'Chuck and Selene decide to head to the mines, to help them out with their business, and maybe get some words in with Granona Flintbeard. Meanwhile, R'Oarc has decided to go to talk to the neighboring Grizzly-folk, see if they know anything. She enlists the help of Screech, who's just bound and determined to not talk to Flintbeard. He does, however, request that they stop by the keep along the way. He says he wants to change his clothes, which is true. But he's also going to be wearing his new costume underneath...

Short[]

T'Chuck sleeps with Captain Clint. Screech makes a new costume. Selene has a Zoom meeting with Master Caegin and reveals everything that's been going on. The next morning (after leveling up), R'Oarc sends a letter to Selene asking to join her band. Both Selene and Screech talk to Devin Decacog, who's wearing his 10-armed suit. They hint that Alandra Thorne is up to no good, so he sends out a spy to investigate. Captain Clint decides to check out the Hunter's Guild, T'Chuck and Selene decide to check out the mines, and R'Oarch and Screech decide to check out the neighboring Grizzly-folk. Lot of checking out in this episode.

Trivia[]

  • Day 2 3 of the campaign.
  • T'Chuck is a bit of a flirt. He's dated (casually), 75% of the town. This includes couples (because they're progressive that way). This also includes Captain Clint.
  • Level two, baby!!!
    • Bachmann, a notorious multi-classer, has decided to take a second Rogue Level. This almost never happens.
  • T'Chuck has Disadvantage on Stealth checks when wearing his armor.
  • There's a pigeon coop on the top of the Trumpeters' carriage, which they are using to send information back to Farhold.
