Metal Kyle To Foment and Brew a Revolution

Welcome to our 2022 geeklycon live show! it is a fully canonical episode where we advance our slightly tense situation with the OT. Also Ratma sends us on a weird quest.

Story[]

Long Story[]

The party stands facing a defeated Kyle Oakenbacher, whose collar of Theonite collar has begun to glow and pulse. Seems a little ominous. They question the man, and learn that he was made to become a member of The Order as punishment for stealing a baguette. But he's not too keen on the Order. In fact, he's a member of the resistance, with the goal of restoring magic to the realm. To that end, he'd like to speak to Ratma Ritmo. He says this, and then falls unconscious, seemingly due to the collar. Selene is wearing the same type of collar as Kyle, so Screech suggests she take it off. But she can't, Selene was told that she would die if she ever removes the collar. Alright, well, I guess there's nothing else to do here in the tunnels beneath the city, so might as well head back into town to speak with Ratma. T'Chuck grabs Kyle, and the dead body of Corey Blue, and they away.

Once back in town, they head straight to the bar, but not for a drink. Ratma Ritmo runs The Goblin Pit, and so everyone piles into the store-room to talk privately. Ratma reveals that she does know Kyle, he's been sending letters to her, conspiring to start a revolution. Ratma claims to have been ignoring these letters. Seems they know each other through Emperor Beauregard, who Ratma used to pal around with back in the day. She turns her attention to Kyle's collar, and notes that the reason it's glowing is because he was uttering "unforgivable phrases". Basically, any talk of treason, or revolution, or what-not, will cause the collar to render the wearer unconscious, and can also be used to track him. So, they need to get this collar off of him. And Selene, too. Ratma tells her that the collar is dampening her magical abilities, not supplementing them as she's been lead to believe. It makes sense; Selene has had to move far away from the Theonite mines in order to communicate with the Order. It makes sense that having a chunk of Theonite attached to her at all times would be... problematic, to say the least.

Ratma tells them that she has a way of getting the collar off, a pair of magical bolt cutters, which she keeps in the attic. Juuuuuuuust one problem, though. Also up in the attic is a little science experiment Ratma had been performing, a little project that's "gotten a little too clingy", so she doesn't like to go up there any more. She requests that the party deal with it, and I mean "deal with it", whilst they retrieve the bolt cutters. They agree, so they do it, but not before Screech, noticing that it's night time, decides to excuse himself from the group. What use could the piece-of-shit Screech be in this situation. But hey look, here's Drop Bear! Ready to Drop into action!

There's a trapdoor leading up into the attic, and R'Oarc decides to head up there first. She calls out into the darkness (R'Oarc has Darkvision), and a sultry, deep voice responds to her. It seems to be hitting on her. It also seems to be a winged demon Incubus, because it is! It attacks them, summoning two Giant Bats to fight as well. These bats basically swarm right at T'Chuck, who tries swatting them away. The Incubus and R'Oarc have a Charm-off, but eventually, R'Oarc gets the upper hand. She compels the Incubus to fall asleep, whispering to it that she'll wake him later and they'll... hang out together. The bats, seeing their commander sleeping, try to run away, but T'Chuck is still pissed. He kills one of them, while the other is able to escape. That's kinda sad, actually.

Anyway, the party turns their attention to the room. There's a black chest in the corner of the room, so T'Chuck drags the sleeping husk of Incy the Incubus over to it. He stuffs it inside (a smitten R'Oarc again whispering that she'll be back later), and removes the bolt cutters. Hurray! Mission Success! Drop Bear vanishes, and Screech appears, having missed the battle. Raise your hand if you're surprised.

The party returns to Kyle, and R'Oarc volunteers to use the bolt cutters on his collar, much to T'Chuck's resistance. She severs the collar. It falls to the ground. Kyle wakes. His head doesn't explode! He thanks them, and tells them that he's going to explain everything, but has to do it through song! He stands up, and begins to sing...

Short[]

Kyle Oakenbacher passes out, so they take him to Ratma Ritmo. Ratma says that the collar put him to sleep, and it will have to be removed. She has some magical bolt cutters in her attic, but they'll have to fight her little side project that she's been keeping up there. This turns out to be an Incubus (that she was definitely keeping up there for sex, right?), which they fight. R'Oarc and the Incubus fall for each other, but she has to put it to sleep. T'Chuck stuffs it into a chest in the attic, and then they take the bolt cutters back to Kyle. They remove the collar, and he begins to explain everything...

Trivia[]

  • Day 7 of the campaign.
  • Screech was in the Drop Bear when they were in the tunnels, but back in Rimeford, he excuses himself to change from Screech to the Drop Bear suit again. So, did he change back at some point? Possibly.
  • The Incubus looks like Brandon from the band Incubus. Do with that information what you will.
  • Selene Alters Herself to look like Ratma Ritmo, which is very funny. She's still Ratma when the episode ends.
