Neitherworld A Long Hallway of Fractured Nightmares

A funny little thing happened while recording this episode – DnDBeyond went down. So, we tried to make the most of it and just sorta vaguely remember what our characters did and what their stats were. We really have become complacent and too used to technology…all that being said I still can’t go back to paper character sheets.

Story[]

Long Story[]

Screech Echo has been rescued! The party finds themselves back in the weird attic of the weird mansion they found in the weird graveyard outside of the weird city of Farhold. Okay, I guess Farhold isn't that weird. And the graveyard is more spooky, than weird. But still. The attic is weird. And you know who's even weirder than all of that? The Jokester! He's back!

The Jokester brings up the mirror shard that they had just been sucked into. He produces a second shard, and puts the two shards together. Somehow, as if by magic, the two mirror shards fuse together, into one larger shard. And, there appears to be a piece missing. The Jokseter tells them that, in order to escape this mansion they are trapped in, they will need to find the third piece. Then, together, they can escape. The only way out of this attic is through the doorway, which leads to a hall that the party has been trying to go through for a few episodes now. But, the Jokester warns them of the ruler of this place: A fearsome Fey creature known only as "The Grinning Beast". Apparently, it's a large creature made of mirrors and magic. He's resistant to "basic attacks" (read: slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage), but is probably susceptible to "loud noises" (read: thunder damage).

With that, the party exits the attic. The Jokester leads the way through a hall of mirrors, which gets more and more magical and strange as they proceed. He also tells them how he got here. It's basically the same story as the party; he was wandering out in the graveyard, when he saw the mansion and decided to go in. That's when he got sucked into the mirror. So, not a lot of information there. He does say that he doesn't know how long he's been in here.

The further along they go, the weirder the mirrors get, and there's also a swirling, scraping sound that gets louder and louder. Eventually, they come upon an open space, the Grinning Beast's lair! It's a mass of amorphous glass, swirling all around, and forming strange shapes, like a skull. The Jokester produces a bunch of not-at-all-fake knives, and asks if the party is ready to fight. And they are! So they do!

The party leaps into action, attacking the Grinning Beast with all they got. They all seem to be going through some kind of brain fog thing, though, since DnDBeyond was down at the time, so the cast couldn't access their character sheets. It's pretty funny. They are surprised to find out that, when the creature gets hit, it retaliates by sending shards of sharp glass at the attacker. Yikes!

Big Bo is also there, and joins in the fight as well. T'Chuck summons a Celestial guardian to help fight, which chips away at the creature. T'Chuck also pushes his way in, and uses Inflict Wounds to, well, inflict some wounds on this thing. He has to get in close to do so. Screech is up on it, too. He runs in, knives blazin', and tries to avoid getting sliced to smithereens as he uses magical weapons to slice and stab this beast. Meanwhile, Selene and R'Oarc hang back, and send Psychic Lances, Fireballs, Eldritch Blasts, and Cure Wounds into the fray. This keeps them free of harm when the Grinning Beast goes into Beyblade mode, spinning into a cyclone of glass shards. This does a ton of damage, but fortunately, no one knows how many hit points they have, so it's fine.

Finally, Selene sends one last Fireball at the creature, which seems to destroy it! But, before the party is able to celebrate, the Grinning Beast splits into three separate glass-like creatures. They fly toward the party to continue the attack!

Short[]

With the party re-united, the Jokester gives them another mirror shard, which combines with the first one they got. He tells them that, to escape the diorama mansion attic thing, they will need to find a third mirror shard. It can only be found by defeating the ruler of this place, the Grinning Beast. According to the Jokester, it's a Fey creature made of magical mirrors. He leads them through a hall of mirrors to get to it's den, and they eventually come across it. There's a fight, which the Jokester and Big Bo also join in on. At the end of the episode, the glass creature is broken into three separate floating creatures, which fly toward them to attack!

Trivia[]

  • Screech has a middle name that isn't Leonard, but Bachmann (and Screech) don't remember it.
