This town is so weird and it sucks so bad that I am starting to think that the whole empire is rotten. Sure, I guess, there are a lot of great folks around but it is the specific things that bring down its value. Like a bar chock full of criminals wanted for crimes. A bar that we were warned not to go to but there was a reason we wanted to go there… I think. Probably.
Story[]
Long Story[]
The party is hanging out in the small town of Brookwillow. Currently, they're on their way to The Golden Grain, a seedy tavern that they've been repeatedly warned not to hang around at. Along the way, however, their eyes are caught by a large bulletin board, with job postings, notices, and some wanted posters. They take a look and see who is currently wanted:
- Marcus Thorne (Human)
- Zarnock the Cruel (Goblin)
- Lucius Vale (Human)
- Bragga Stonecrusher (Dwarf)
The reward for each of these bounties is 500 gold. Of these, Lucius Vale stands out as looking better than the others. Well, less rough, anyway. He's "rogue-ish, but in a handsome way", with a chiseled jawline, slicked back blond hair, and striking grey eyes. It also says that he has a 5.5 inch hog. Not sure why that's on there. But he is wanted for possibly dealing in magical arms. R'Oarc expresses her interest in Lucius Vale, which T'Chuck isn't happy with. He forbids her from becoming involved with him, which is exactly the opposite of what he should do if he wants R'Oarc to stay away from him. They decide that they will have some luck asking around the tavern about these bounties.
As they approach the tavern, someone gets sent flying out the window. It's that kind of place. Inside, it's dark. And not just in tone and aesthetic. Like, it's actually dark. It's also kind of crowded. There are many tables in shadowy corners, where mysterious cloaked figures whisper in hushed tones. And Selene recognizes one of them. It's the Goblin, Zarnock the Cruel, who seems to be having an intense conversation with a few other hooded figures. Screech takes to the shadows, sneaking over to the table to eavesdrop. Meanwhile, T'Chuck goes to bar and tries to have a friendly conversation with the barkeep. Apparently, the tavern has "a bit of a reputation", and they pay good money to keep the city guards from poking around in here. He warns T'Chuck not to speak to Zarnock. He's a dangerous sort. Selene joins the conversation, and asks if anyone's heard any rumors about some OT members getting killed. The bartender is hesitant to deal with her, because she seems like a narc, to be perfectly honest with you. But, if he gets to know them a little better, he may be willing to "have a conversation". Selene slides over one of the gems that they recently acquired from The Gleaming Gem, which he does find interesting. He says that if they are patient, he may have some job for them to do, something that could get them in his good graces. But these opportunities don't come around every day, so they'll have to wait. It's unclear if he actually takes the diamond or not.
Suddenly, there's a loud cry from Zarnock's table. The man sitting across from Zarnock leaps to his seat, and in a rush of anger, stabs a dagger into the table. When his hood falls back, the party recognizes him as Lucius Vale! Zarnock responds by swinging a scimitar at Lucius. It misses, but a fight breaks out! One one side of the table is Zarnock, with 3 big and muscle-y buddies. On the other side is Lucius Vale, and one other dude.
Our party joins the battle, with Screech right next to the table. He attacks Zarnock, but tries to play it off like it was one of the others. Zarnock's not buying it. He attempts to attack Screech back, but is distracted by R'Oarc's Silvery Barbs. Selene uses a Bonus Action to shove Zarnock backward, and then uses a second Bonus Action to summon her Hound of Ill Omen! It's the same Dire Wolf as she summoned before, which she says she had named "Jon Moxley". I don't remember that, but I don't remember much, so that isn't saying anything. The wolf appears beneath the table, and begins gnawing at Zarnock's legs. T'Chuck attempts to play the peacemaker, shoving his way into the center of the fight to stop them. He is unable to, but R'Oarc is more successful. She casts Suggestion on the Goblin, convincing him to run away from "Jon Moxley". When he does, the beast leaps onto his back, and bites at his other leg. This is enough to kill him. Seeing their leader fall, the other three guys who were with Zarnock surrender.
The battle over, the party glances around the rest of the room. Some of the people are clearing out, not wanting to get involved with whatever violence is going on. The bartender, however, just continues chilling behind the bar, cleaning glasses. He does give Lucius a knowing nod, however. T'Chuck goes to Zarnock's body, and "rescues" his scimitar, and 200 gold. He also chops his damn head off using a steak knife, and gives it to Screech to put in the Portable Hole. Gross! Selene pets Jon Moxly, who then disappears.
Finally, Lucius approaches the party, and says he wants to speak with them. But not here. Somewhere... private. He offers to bring them back to a secret room he has, which the party agrees to. Together, they head down a flight of stairs, and through a secret door. Inside is a room full of magical items!
Short[]
The party enters the Golden Grain Tavern, where a couple of wanted men are fighting. They join the fight, kill a Goblin named Zarnock the Cruel, and meet a human named Lucius Vale. As thanks for helping him out, he takes them to a secret room full of magical items.
Trivia[]
- The episode starts with the cast reaffirming who their characters are, and what they look like:
- Tim Lanning plays T'Chuck. He's a Hobgoblin with orange skin, and long, black-and-grey hair, shaved on the side. You can see tattoos on the side of his head. He's huge, standing at 6' 8", and is also full bodied, with a big belly, wide shoulders, thicc arms, and all that. Little tusks coming up from his lower teeth. He wears a leather coat/duster/jerkin thing with some plate armor underneath. He also has a beard, a shield, and the Mace of Regnier strapped to his side.
- Jennifer Cheek plays Selene von Esper. She has newly blonde hair that she clearly chopped shorter herself. She's currently experimenting with changing up her look. Right now, she's wearing a dark green coat, with black pants, and "little boots". She's also sporting a high collar, to hide her neck. She used to wear a Theonite collar, as all OT members do. But, since defecting from the order, she no longer wears this. The high neck-line is mostly there for comfort.
- Mike Bachmann plays Screech Echo. Formerly a playboy billionare, Screech is looking pretty disheveled these days. Currently wearing street clothes, which he describes as a long coat that resembles something a magician would wear, but it's all worn out and tattered. And has a bunch of dog fur peppered all over it.
- Nika Howard plays R'Oarc. She's a Half-Orc going through a punk phase. She changes up her look a lot, but today, is essentially Harley Quinn. Sequinned black pants, with fishnets underneath. T-shirt that says "Daddy's Little Sausage" on it, and a line of safety pins up the side. Over top of this, she's wearing The Jokester's "clown jacket". And her hair is in pigtails now.
- Also on the bulletin board are some notices about things like cleaning out horse stalls. Not very interesting. There is one, however, that offers a 5,000 gold reward for slaying "The Monster of the Lake".
