Welcome to Brookwillow Bad Guy Bar Fight

Strange people keep coming up to Screech and handing him things or whispering in his ear. This wouldn’t be that weird since he such an important dude but we just got to this town and no one should know that we are here. Strange times ahead...

Story[]

Long Story[]

The party is palling around the small town of Brookwillow, and having a grand ol' time doing it. There are several stops each party member wants to make, but at the moment, they're all pretty interested in visiting "Elara's Apothecary", mostly due to R'Oarc's desire for Silverweed. I suppose they could also pick up some healing potions.

The shop, which is essentially just a dispensary, does, in fact sell Silverweed. They also sell garlic sauce, salt, pepper, cilantro, and smoke bombs. Healing potions? No! But he does have "CBD healing potions", which, according to the guy behind the counter, tastes just the same, but doesn't really do anything. So, they won't actually heal them, but the good news is that they are 10 gold each! Another thing he sells is a poison called "Bella Donna". It normally goes for 15 gold, but R'Oarc is able to buy some for only 10 gold, with the understanding that she will use her bardic ways to promote the apothecary. It's not 100% clear if this transaction ever actually goes through. Then, the party all takes some Silverweed. Selene is one of those paranoid, nervous types, so she takes some, hoping it will take the edge off.

T'Chuck still has a bunch of those boner pills that they got from The Abbott, so he offers to sell some of them to this dude. He wants to try one first, so T'Chuck gives him one, in exchange for a "hot tip": If it's healing potions they are after, there's may be a guy at "the Grain" who could sell them "the real stuff". That's one hot tip! Anyway, the guy likes the way the boner pills make him feel (all tingly), so he agrees to buy 30 pills, for 5 gold each. That's 150 gold total! The dude also sells Screech 5 smoke bombs, for 1 gold each. Now, they have 1,847 gold "give or take". After leaving the Apothecary, Tim Lanning decides to retcon something. He only sold 20 boner pills to the dude, meaning they only got 100 gold from that deal. So, they should instead have 1,797 gold "give or take". I'm assuming Screech used his own money to buy those smoke bombs.

Selene claims to not be feeling the effects of the Silverweed. But, we'll see. Screech is also up to some shenanigans. A Halfling with an apron covered in flour comes over to him, and speaks to him quietly. Wonder what that's about!

Well, what next? There are still a few stores they want to go to. R'Oarc wants to head to the jewelry store, called "The Gleaming Gem", while the others are more interested in going to "Silverleaf Tailoring" for some new clothes. They decide to split up, but not before T'Chuck gives R'Oarc one of the boner pills to barter with. Starting with the non-R'Oarc members of the party, we enter Silverleaf Tailoring, and are greeted by a woman named "Miranda Goldleaf" (not Silverleaf, confusingly). T'Chuck wants to find a specific hat to wear. Similar to a cowboy hat, but fantasy-esque. No feather. Workman style, to keep the sun out of his eyes. I have no idea what this would look like, but he does find one, and buys it for 3 gold. Also, Selene needs to change up her look, to reflect all the internal changes she's been going through. She doesn't know how to dress herself, though, so she asks Miranda for some advice. Together, they have a makeover montage, trying on a variety of different outfits. They do settle on an outfit, but we'll find out what that is later.

Screech is still up to some shenanigans. The Halfling from before returns, handing him a muffin. He takes a bite, disapproves, and shakes his head no. The Halfling leaves. T'Chuck tries to ask him about this, but Screech brushes it off. That's just his muffin guy, don't worry about it. Screech then turns his attention to Miranda, asking for a custom, discreet job. He unloads a bag full of various dinosaur feathers, and asks her to make him an outfit from them, to resemble a Philippine Eagle! She agrees, telling him it will take 3 days. Conveniently enough, that's when his "bear claws", and R'Oarc's new crossbow guitar will be done.

Meanwhile, R'Oarc is patronizing the jewelry shop, "The Gleaming Gem". There, she meets Fizzlebang Glimmerstone, an elderly Gnome with "crazy hair", who reports to be 503 years old, a suspiciously specific number. He immediately falls in love with R'Oarc. Initially, she refuses his advances, but upon learning how old he is, and seeing the value in all of the gems around the shop, she becomes interested. She agrees to go on a first date with them, but requests that, for their date, he pierce her belly button. How romantic. He agrees, and even does it for free. Is he good at it? Eh. He's not not good at it. She later describes it as like a curved bar, and has a dangle in the shape of a butterfly. Now that they've had their first date, this seems like a sure thing. With great difficulty, Fizzlebang gets down on one knee, and produces a beautiful diamond ring. He asks if she will become R'Oarc Glimmerstone. And she says yes! Hurray! Love is in the air! R'Oarc leaves to go plan the wedding, but gives him the boner pill in the meantime.

R'Oarc returns to the party, and gives them the happy news. Of course, T'Chuck is surprised by this, and demands that R'Oarc take him to the jeweler, so he can meet his daughter's new fiance. The party heads there together, but Fizzlebang doesn't appear to be there waiting for them. In fact, if they had an appoinment to meet him, he would be running a bit... late. Because he's dead.

Yup. The boner pill killed him. This isn't the first time R'Oarc accidentally murdered an innocent person by feeding them something that was bad for them. His well-endowed corpse now lays behind the counter. At least he died as he lived: on the job. Maybe this means that R'Oarc will inherit the jewelry store! Looking around, they estimate that there's about 2,500 gold worth of the gems and jewels laying around. Unfortunately, there's no real proof that he proposed to her. She does have the diamond ring, but she could have just pinched it. Maybe it would be best to go get the local constable, and let him know what happened. Otherwise, the body could be found later, and they could be accused of murder! Maybe R'Oarc could casts "Weekend at Bernie's" this guy with a quick Animate Dead. Before doing that, however, T'Chuck casts Speak with Dead to communicate with this guy.

T'Chuck introduces himself to the former Fizzlebang Glimmerstone, and pushes him into giving over the business to R'Oarc. Glimmerstone doesn't really know if that's what he wants, and since he never got the chance to actually marry R'Oarc, it sounds like she doesn't get anything. They ask him if he has any family, but all he has is a no-good nephew who lives on the other side of town (34 Woodbrooke Lane). He has a terrible work ethic, according to Glimmerstone. The last piece of information they get is that there's a secret chest in his bedroom, with 1,000 gold in it. The Gnome dies again.

Well, now what? Should they steal the money? T'Chuck reasons that, since they are on a mission to help the Emperor, they have an almost divine justification for taking the money. He also prays to Regnier, offering his reasoning, and says "if I'm wrong, then please stop me from stealing, Regnier." Regnier does not stop him. Into the inventory 1,000 gold goes! This is actually a genius way for anyone to justify anything. Just pray to the gods to stop you if they don't want you to do something. Since they didn't stop you, it's clearly not a crime! Genius!

Finally, before leaving, they prop Glimmerstone's body up against the wall, to make it look like he's napping. R'Oarc decides to come back and check on him every 6 hours, to make sure the heat of the day doesn't make him too stinky. Also, T'Chuck also swipes three diamonds from the counter, worth a total of 2,000 gold.

And with all of that out of the way, the party finally decides to head toward The Golden Grain Tavern...

Short[]

The party chills at a dispensary for a while, where Screech buys some smoke bombs, T'Chuck sells some of his boner pills, and everyone gets high. Then, they go to the clothing store. Selene gets a new outfit, T'Chuck gets a new hat, and Screech places an order for a Phillipine Eagle costume. Meanwhile, R'Oarc goes to the jewelry store and manages to get engaged to the elderly gnome who runs the place. She gives him one of the boner pills, which kills him. The rest of the party arrives, finds him dead, and steals his secret supply of money, and some of the diamonds from the shelves. And these are supposed to be our heroes.

Trivia[]

  • The guy behind the dispensary at Elara's Apothecary is not Elara. He goes unnamed, but at one point, says something that sounds like "I'm Dirk". Then says he's "just some dork." So, his name may be Dirk. Or, it may not be. We'll never know.
  • In T'Chuck's inventory are some eggs from the big bird pterodactyl thing, and the lips from the guy who hates "Bill", and wants to be buried at sea. See Episode 64 for more details.
  • A wagon costs 35 gold.
  • T'Chuck's Passive Insight is 18.
  • T'Chuck claims that his parents were "sucked off" by a tornado, but this may not be true.
  • According to Fizzlebang Glimmerstone, the oldest Gnome ever was 450. So, the fact that he himself is 503 is extra wild.
  • R'Oarc father is dead for sure, but they aren't really sure what happened with her mother. Nika and Tim left that up for Michael do decide.
