Beary was a Grizzley-folk Cleric living in a cabin in the dark and treacherous forests outside of Rimeford. He wasn't aligned with the other Grizzley-folk, nor was he aligned with Rimeford itself. He served the forest god, Regnier (spelling unclear), and channeled their magic to heal people. Notably, he rescued Screech Echo and R'Oarc from Karnak, an attacking ogre, though R'Oarc was technically killed by it. He was, however, able to resurrect her, and kept them both safe until her father T'Chuck, and friend Selene von Esper met up with them.

He had a years long rivalry with Karnak the Ogre, resulting in the latter attacking Beary's cabin along with a team of Goblins. The adventurers tried to help in fending them off, but were unsuccessful in preventing Beary's cabin from burning down. He didn't blame them, however. After spending the night consoling him, T'Chuck and R'Oarc invited him to stay with him back in Rimeford. He refused, citing his fears that the other citizens of Rimeford would surely drive him out with torches and pitchforks, something his parents warned him would happen. They assured him this wouldn't happen, however, so Beary agreed to come by next harvest to meet some of the people there.

Later, the party killed Karnak on a mission to do something nice for the Grizzly-folk. After this, they visited Beary again and asked him to lead them to the Grizzly-folk. He refused, claiming they have ostracized him for wanting to live in Rimeford. He did draw them a map, though. Sending them off, he asked them to fetch some "mushroom muffins" from the Grizzly-folk for him. They did get the muffins, but never went back to deliver them.
