Flaming Pile of Circus (2x81) | The Resistance (2x120) |
Barnabas Rumbletoes was the ring-leader of The Big Top Traveling Circus and Magnificent Menagerie, a traveling circus (and magnificent menagerie) operating in the northwestern region of Drunkeros. The circus had recently hired The Jokester as a clown in their circus, but after causing a bunch of mischief, he was promptly fired. Barnabas requested the help of T'Chuck, R'Oarc, Selene von Esper, and Screech Echo to help fix things.
During their cleanup efforts, the party found that Barnabas was a terrible boss. He would bust union, put down strikes, didn't offer hazard pay, and, in some cases, didn't pay his workers at all. Some, he forced to work for tips. Others, like Thadius Whimsybottom, the animal trainer, he didn't pay at all. It was also revealed that he instructed the lollipop salesman to make the sticks intentionally too small, so the children would drop them, and be forced to buy more. Ultimately, the party was able to convince/threaten Barnabas into paying his workers more fairly.
Following this, Barnabas became a much more amiable character, greeting the party with warmth and admiration. When the time came for the party to leave the circus, Barnabas expressed his disappointment that they weren't interested in staying with them. Though, he did wish them luck on their future endeavors.
